Swing State Flier of the Day:

This ad is…whimsical. I am not quite sure what micro-targeting is going on here. As a young thirty-year old, when I see Obama standing in a fantasy landscape, I don’t say, “Obama is delusional and lives in an alternate reality with a disproportionately sized moon.” I instead say, “Hot damn, what RPG is Obama starring in? I wanna play THAT video game.” And who the hell approved the flamingos? You would have an awesome Myst-type video game world if it wasn’t for those damn incongruous birds. Could nobody on the staff at Restore Our Future draw an effective unicorn?

The second side is more boring, and doesn’t really convey what it intends to. The zooming-in on the pixellated ledge doesn’t really convey the sharp disjunction between reality and fantasy this ad tries to argue . Kudos though for using the stars in the fantasy world to connotate the stars on the American flag. And why is “THE HARSH REALITY” hidden under the banner? Shouldn’t that be more prominent, since that is the whole argument of this flier? Or did the graphic designers just want you to focus on the buzz words and think OH NO BIG BAD OVERTAXING DEMOCRAT?

I give this one a B+ for at least being interesting, and having an awesome moon.
